Fisher, Allen

(1944- )

   Born in London, he started writing poetry in his early twenties and has become a successful poet, painter, publisher, teacher and performer associated with the British Poetry Revival. His early long project Place was published in a series of books and pamphlets in the 1970s. He has been working on a project called Gravity as a consequence of shape since 1982, which was completed in 2005. He is head of art at the University of Surrey, Roehampton. He has exhibited widely and his work is represented in the Tate Gallery, the Living Museum, Iceland, and City Gallery, York. He is the editor of the Hereford based Spanner-a magazine that focuses on particular authors or subjects in each issue, which has published many of the revival poets. He has published over 100 books of poetry, graphics and art documentation. Two of his books are: The Apocalyptic Sonnets (1978) and Poetry for Schools (1980). Some of his poems: "Emergent Manner," "Four Novels," "Mummers' Strut," "Murder One," "Stepping Out," "The Ditchley Portrait," "The Gardener's Preface."
